Site accessibility
BWY South East Region recognises and values the provision of information on this website in a format which is accessible to all users. Should you have difficulty in accessing information on any of the pages, please let us know what problem you have encountered.
Web standards compliance
Our website adheres to recognised web standards. We have followed the priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and believe that our pages comply. This is a subjective assessment because a number of accessibility features cannot be tested using third party validators. The site is developed using valid XHTML and CSS. Most of the site content is separated from presentational elements, making the content available to visitors using screen readers or text-only browsers.
Text size
The site uses relative font sizes to enable users to resize text using the text size facilities (usually found under 'View' → 'Text Size' on the top menu bar) which are built into most modern browsers.
Navigation aids
Users with limited physical capabilities may navigate the website without using a mouse, but by pressing the tab key to move through the hyperlinks on each page. There is a site map which enables direct access to all pages on the website.
Access keys
Access keys allow you to jump to specific places on the page or website. All pages use access keys for skip to content, and jump to navigation bar links. (These links are not normally visible, except when navigating by means of the tab key.) Access keys assist navigation by tabs, and are essential for those who use screen readers. Functionality depends on the type of operating system. In general,
- Windows IE browsers: press the 'Alt' key + the access key.
If the link is not accessed immediately, press 'Enter'. - Windows Mozilla: press the 'Shift' + 'Alt' key + the access key.
- Macintosh browsers: press 'Control' + the access key.
