BWY Foundation Courses

Foundation Course Level 1

The 60-hour course intensifies and expands the practices of general yoga classes and is available to anyone who has a keen interest and wants to learn more about Yoga. It delves into a wide variety of strands of yoga, such as increased depth of postural analysis and asana, breath to pranayama, relaxation to meditation. The syllabus includes mantra and mudra—something which may or may not be taught in general classes. It also allows participants to delve into the philosophies and theories which underpin yoga.

This course is run by either Foundation Course Tutors or Diploma Course Tutors. There is no prescribed written homework, but some tutors may suggest a diary and notes on practice between tutorials.

Foundation Course Level 2

Foundation Course Level 2 is also of 60 hours’ duration and is for students who have completed Foundation Course level 1, but do not wish to train as a BWY Teacher. This course is more inodepth and includes, Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha, Kriyas, Meditation, with more study of Patanjali Yoga Sutras Chapter 1, and planning personal practices.

FC1 and FC2 students are required to have practised Yoga for a minimum of 2 years with a BWY (or accredited) teacher.

BWY Foundation Course Level 1 – East Sussex

This 60-hour course is an opportunity to explore the deeper aspects of Yoga practice that are not normally taught in general classes. We will explore the various energetic practices taught in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika - including the basic principles of Ayurveda which underpin it, as well as the Yoga philosophy of Patanjali's famous Yoga Sutras. The course will be approximately half practice and half theory and there will be lots of opportunity for discussion. Practices will include Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha, Mantra, Meditation and the Shatkarmas (Yogic cleansing techniques.)

Course frequency: Approx one meeting per month
Course requirements: 2 years' experience of regular Yoga

tutor photo Tarik Dervish holds an honours degree in Ayurveda and is also a Diploma Course Tutor for the British Wheel. He has been running courses that integrate Yoga and Ayurveda since 2003 and is passionate about educating the Yoga community about the importance of teaching and practising with Ayurvedic principles. He runs courses in Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy, an accredited BWY module and also an Ayurveda clinic in Central London. He has been teaching Yoga since 1997 and though his style is eclectic, his main spiritual influences are from the Bihar School of Yoga.

Experiential, interactive, fun, with a small supportive group learning together in a beautiful modern under-floor-heated studio situated between Brighton and Eastbourne, with alfresco lunches in a tranquil garden, and stunning views of the South Downs overlooking Newhaven Marina and Fort.

Janet Bond is a highly experienced Senior BWY Foundation, Certificate and Diploma Course Tutor, with 9 Fitness Qualifications from the YMCA plus 5 Post Grad Module Certificates specialising in teaching Pranayama, Meditation, Pregnancy Yoga and Yoga for those living with Cancer, plus Yoga Nidra. She is also recently qualified in the Satyandanda Classical Yoga Tradition. Janet is an ex-Army Nurse and Head of Newhaven Adult Education Centre, Reiki Master and Sound Healing Therapist. Courses are held in her newly-built under-floor heated fully equipped studio on the South Coast (between Brighton and Eastbourne). Attendees can enjoy shared alfresco lunches in her tranquil terraced garden overlooking Newhaven Marina and Fort, (weather permitting).

Course frequency: 10 Sundays from 6th December 2015 - 17th July 2016. The Venue is the stunning Yoga Sp8ce in Cobham, Surrey, a purpose-built Eco studio in the Surrey countryside.
Introductory afternoon: Sunday 25th October 2015, 1.30 - 4.30 pm

This course is designed to deepen your knowledge and increase your understanding of the many different aspects of yoga.
